She was born in Rappahannock County on Aug. 30, 1920 to the late James Aldrick Courtney and Mary Ann Curtis Courtney.
Ms. Courtney was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. She attended the Piedmont Vocational School and was employed at the Virginia Baptist Retirement Community as a Nurse Assistant. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is survived by a great niece and two great nephews.
Ms. Courtney was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh B. Courtney of College Park, Md. and Clyde C. Courtney of Culpeper and a niece, Patricia C. Martin.
A funeral service was held Dec. 8 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Dallas F. Smith officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Joseph Lewis Durden, 52, of Murrells Inlet, S.C. died at Waccamaw Community Hospital on Nov. 18.
Mr. Durden was born May 26, 1952 in Luray.
He was the son of Bonnie Daly Jenkins and the late Joseph M. Durden.
