The use of a thurifer spreading incense as Mr. O’Connell processed to his place at a large table was contrived and abhorrent. The use of incense manifests the prayers of Christ’s faithful rising with the one acceptable sacrifice—Christ’s offering of himself on the cross. Liturgical vestments are also important symbols.
