Now that the first freeze has come and gone, it’s time to start thinking about snow and ice storms that may cause havoc to your trees and shrubs.
Evaluation of trees before severe weather may save you money and headaches later. It is especially important to check the trees that are around your home, driveway, and power lines. There are four signs to look for when evaluating trees:
• The first sign includes cracks. Cracks in the trunk and major branches usually invite disease and decay.
• The second sign is a forked trunk. These unions are usually weak with dead or decaying wood between the trunks.
• The third sign is dead limbs/branches. Dead limbs are a major hazard and can fall at any time. Especially take notice of horizontal branches that look to be rather heavy.
