Each year Rappahannock County seems to come together more to help those residents less fortunate.
“Everyone is usually very generous this time of year. Rappahannock County really rises to the occasion and I know the people thank them for that,” says Marie Davis, office manager of the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services.
Pastor Jon Heddleston of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville noted that its annual holiday collections have been increasing. Ten years ago collections only added up to about $150, but in recent years they have seen an increase in offerings and collected as much as $500.
As it does every year the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services is doing several things to help those in need. It is supplying gift baskets of food through Food Lion and also sending people to Wal-Mart with gift certificates designated for particular items such as food and clothing.
“Adopt a Family” is another program that has proven to be very successful over the years. Families in need are required to fill out an application and then Social Services puts them up for adoption. Those who choose to
