For those in the community who use the Rappahannock County Library, an upgrade is in store.
With funds donated by the late Jamie Jamieson and the Friends of the Library group, the library is installing eight new computers.
Two of the new computers will be used for persons to access the Internet; two will be used as automated patron catalogues for looking up books; one will be for the circulation desk; and the other three will be for the staff.
All the computers will be Macintosh' based because David Shaffer, head librSfian, said, “They are better for virus protection, they are more user friendly and they hold up better with the overall library system.”
The current library computers are five to six years old and some of them are on their last legs, he said. The company Sage Bush is currently converting all the library information to the new system. After that is done it is only a matter of installing the new hardware which will be done by BlueRidgeMac. Shaffer hopes that the new computers will be up and running by the middle of this month, but he stresses the word “hope.” The library will probably close for a couple of days during that time for staff training sessions.
“It will be a significant upgrade for us and the patrons will find it much easier to use,” he said.
