Centex Homes — part of the Centex Corporation — is a heavyweight in the nation’s home building industry.
The parent corporation is a Fortune 250 giant, with an annual revenue exceeding $10 billion, and Centex Homes, one of its many subsidiaries, built over 30,000 homes last year. It is about to build 774 more homes plus 398,000 square feet of retail and office space at the southeast quadrant of Clevenger’s Corner at the intersection of U.S. 211 and Route 229 in Culpeper County.
Rappahannock County travelers will get a chance in the coming years to see a major home builder in action. But to jaded commuters traveling each day to-and-from Northern Virginia, the scene will be familiar.
First to come will be cuts into the landscape from Route 229 and U.S. 211. Turn lanes will be built, followed by the clearing of trees, the roughingin of roads, loads of gravel being spread, signs going up, and a sales trailer put into place.
