Over the past 18 months, Rappahannock County has lost two of its farmers and nearly lost another due to serious tractor accidents.
William “Doug” Eastham was spared his life. A tractor accident in December left him seriously injured but he is recuperating.
In July of 2003, John Dwyer of Flint Hill was bush hogging when the tractor he was riding overturned on him.
In August of 2004. Jim Lee of Washington was also trapped under a tractor when a tractor wheel had snagged on a rock causing the entire tractor to flip over on him.
One of the things that Rappahannock County is known best for is farming. It is not at all unusual to see the tractors in the fields or even to see them riding down Rt. 211. The tractors are used for so many things such as bushhogging, plowing and planting the fields, feeding livestock, and carrying hay. These Eire just a few of their uses.
