Rappahannock resident Janet Kerig is inviting people to learn the language of the drum in her Wise Woman Drum Call Workshop to be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Town Hall in Washington.

All levels are welcome to participate even if they do not have their own drum.

In the workshop people can expect to learn many different drum rhythms including world beat, primal beat, trance, entrainment, belly dance rhythms, zills, and West African. Kerig will also help those who might be shy to become confident about drumming.

“Everybody in the drum circle will get attention as well as a chance to drum on their own and in the group,” said Kerig. She believes this workshop will be particularly beneficial because participants will be able to take something home with them to practice.

“People meet to drum in drum circles and then go home and forget what they did,” said Kerig.

Along with being fun, drumming is also good for your health.
