It all starts happening on February 25. Ki Theatre again brings to Rappahannock County its highly popular “Life Stories Workshops.”
Now in its eighth year, the workshops art led by Julie Portman, awardwinning actress and nationally recognized storyteller and author.
Storytelling has chronicled civilizations over the ages, long before there was the written word. One has only to reflect for a moment on the stories that we, as babes in their arms, heard from our parents and grandparents.
“By creating stories from the material of their life experiences, participants in this series of workshops begin to understand that they are the creators of their life events,” said Portman.
Portman’s workshops are part of a national story writing and story-sharing program sponsored by Ki Theatre that teaches participants how to shape personal experiences into memorable stories. Through a process of writing and sharing life stories, people learn how to listen and respond to each other’s stories, using images rather than critical judgment, thereby increasing understanding.
