On Friday, February 17, the student body at RCES celebrated the attainment of a collective goal...the collection of one million aluminum tab tops. Some said it couldn’t be done, but RCES has proved them wrong.
Two and a half years ago students in Jan Makela’s 4^h grade math class were studying place value through millions, when everyone, including the teacher, realized that they were having trouble visualizing just how much a million really is. It was suggested that the class collect a million of something... and the rest is history. Mrs. Makela bought a 32gallon trash can and they began to collect.
