And Allen would not be too surprised if he and Gosalves saw each other again - this time for the state title.
“I haven’t wrestled any of the guys that he supposedly will have to face to win a state title,” Allen added. “I was kind of disappointed in myself (Saturday). I wanted to have a farther (point) spread between us.”
Allen, who has won 111 matches in his career at Rappahannock, will be the No. 1 seed in his weight class. Because he finished second as a junior, there will be many people pulling for him to win a state championship, the first in the Rappahannock wrestling program’s histoiy.
“Everyone expects me to be a state champion,” he said, “but you’re not a state champion if you lose.”
Sharp qualified for the state tournament by winning four of five matches at 140 pounds and finishing third. He is now 21-2 overall.
