possibly due to saturation of the soil and substrata with fecal material. It will take many years for nature to heal the damage already done and currently being inflicted upon the environment.

According to experts whose job it is to know about such things, the “mass drainfield” proposed by some local residents appears to be a less effective and less reliable alternative to the problem, taking into account the unsuitability of soil types for septic systems in and around the Town. Moreover, it will delay a solution for many months, if not year^, while the ongoing pollution of our watershed continues.

The proposed treatment facility for which the Town finally has sought approval from DEQ is long overdue and appears to be the best of the available options needed to protect the local environment. While it may not be the ideal solution, it should be supported.
