that the church is a community of disciples devoted to sharing God’s mission, which is making disciples of Jesus Christ. They do this by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace by following Jesus’s command to love God and love our neighbor, by encouraging people to practice the means of grace-worship, sacraments, Bible study, prayer, and Christian conferencing.
All churches in the Rappahannock Charge are attuned to the needs of the community and enjoy ecumenical activities. The charge participates in the community Lenten services and the community Thanksgiving service. They also host a series of services in the spring called “Proclaim the Word”. The churches share a pastor. United Methodist pastors are appointed to a charge multiple churches or one church to serve a community. With three churches they have a large “community extending from Front Royal to much of Rappahannock County.
Reverend Leah Delong
The Reverend Leah DeLong has led the Rappahannock Methodist Charge since last June. She stepped into the fold and into the community when the Reverend Merlin Shorb retired.
Rappahannock is DeLong’s second charge. She served before in the Paris Mountain Charge near Winchester while still in seminary and received her Doctor of Divinity.
