The announcement about the market, which opened in 2000, took some shoppers by surprise.
Beverly Hunter, of Amissville, said she walked into the market looking to buy a sandwich and ended up buying loads of wine, vinegar, teas, jams and chocolates at the reduced prices.
But even with the low prices, Hunter expressed sorrow about the store’s closing.
“It’s very sad,” she said. “I’ll sure miss it.”
The closure is the latest in a line of properties and businesses owned by former Rappahannock County resident David Cole that have been sold or shut down in the past six months.
Meredith Gorfein, manager of the market, said she found out about the closing last week, but held the announcement until Wednesday.
