Painting from a palette of primary colors, Garon is a prolific painter. ‘This is how I earn my living, this is my work,” says Garon about his self-taught talent that he has fine tuned over the years gaining himself an international audience.
Working as an architect in Washington, D C. lost its appeal for Garon who started painting seriously when he was 40. Now, some 13 years later he basks in the satisfaction that he is, in fact, earning his living as an artist.
If you’re looking for Old Rag Mountain or a scene from the latest hunt, you won’t find that in Garon’s canvases. His works are not representational and that is by design.
While his paintings are titled with one or two word descriptions like “Bog” or "Edge of Night” they are crafted of color and rhythm and evoke many moods. It all depends on who is looking at them and their own particular frame of perspective.
One of Garon’s latest paintings is a tantalizing blend of blues. Titled Spout” it conjures up expanses of blue sky with a rising sun or perhaps a u indswept ocean with a setting moon or is that the back of a dolphin or a disappearing boat on the horizon. It’s up to the viewer’s memory and mood to decide. Garon has created a backdrop of iridescent color, shape and movement that lures the viewer closer with rewards that the- artist has given and the viewer can take.
What you see is what you get when you pay a visit to the studio of Peter David Garon. There are no hidden messages. No searches for secret symbolism. There is plenty of color, beauty and a symphony of movement. They are easy on the eye and uplifting for the soul. They are joyous, beautiful and positive.
