security and have supported amnesty for illegal aliens. They oppose the Patriot Act, missile defense, and terrorist surveillance. They increase our dependence on foreign oil by opposing drilling for oil off Virginia’s coast and on the North Slope in Alaska.
Democrats are counting on public dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq. I am not pleased with Iraq either. Iraq is a difficult battle in a war against terror. Unfortunately, the worldwide war against terror will continue for years to come and Iraq is a major battle in that great war - one we must win. We must not leave Iraq before the job is done, or it will become a safe haven for terrorists and a launching pad for attacks against America. This costly war is being fought by the finest young men and women in the world. They deserve our full support. Winning in Iraq is our best hope for encouraging a change in the Middle East that will benefit the entire world.
Although an international coalition of terrorists has declared war against the civilized world - symbolized by us - we have not yet had a major attack here since 9/11. This is no accident. It is in part due to the efforts of Senator Allen and Congressman Cantor that we have weakened the terrorist networks and thwarted their plans.
The Republican Congress has not been perfect. Spending is too great, and although the deficit has been cut in half in three years, I would like to see it still smaller. Some members of Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, have misused their positions, but our representatives, Senator George Allen and Congressman Eric Cantor, have served with honor and distinction, carrying out the will of the people of Virginia.
George Allen, who was an outstanding governor, has continued his record of achievement in the Senate. He continues to work for what is right - lower taxes, strong national defense, energy independence, homeland security, and equal opportunity for all. As Senator John Warner said, George Allen “is honorable, thoughtful, and a principled man.... George has my vote.” Eric Cantor’s experience and dedication also have helped promote a strong economy and vital security. These men have my vote. I encourage you to give them yours.
