Allen stops in Sperryville

On a glorious and blustery fall Saturday in Rappahannock County, Jim and Demaris Miller hosted a barbecue for neighbors and friends. Pony rides, a bluegrass band, barbecue sandwiches and chicken, with loads of brownies and blondies for dessert, were set to be the highlights of the day. The stunning view of Old Rag Mountain gleamed in fall colors as neighbors met new neighbors and old friends.
Barely a week away from election day, Senator George Allen let the Millers know he’d be dropping by the party. As word spread throughout the county of the Senator’s impending arrival, the crowd swelled as revelers rushed to get to the party early to warmly greet the Senator and snap photos.
Senator Allen tossed footballs with the children at the party, talked issues with the crowd, shook hands, kissed babies and enjoyed some good, old-fashioned music by the Page County Ramblers at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Party goers were asked a barrage of questions from the entourage of media following the Senator: “You say you’ve already voted for the Senator?” and “What was the main issue that motivated you to vote for the Senator?” and “What do you think the outcome of the election will be?”
Allen had a busy day ahead as he bid the crowd adieu and headed to the rest of his 12 stops along the campaign trail that day.
