On Saturday, October 28, Clevenger’s Comer Animal Clime hosted its second annual Pet Costume Contest. The contest turned out to be quite a bash with prizes, giveaways and, of course, an incredible variety of costumed pets! There were dogs dressed as alligators, beetles, witches and even a Spiderman. Dogs were there in the largest numbers. However, there were cats competing as well, although most of them looked like their dignity was being insulted by these shenanigans! And although I didn’t see this first hand, I heard rumors that someone had brought a costumed hermit crab! The humans and most of the pets were definitely having a good time. Dr. Crystal Taylor said the crowd is growing each year as word gets out. There were goody bags for all participants as well as prizes for the winners in each of the categories. The categories in which pets competed were: largest, smallest, best couple, looks-most-like-owner, prettiest, and several honorable mentions.
Saturday was also a busy day for RAWL (Rappahannock Animal Welfare League). The League was hosting its 3rd annual Strutt Your Mutt. This is an event held each fall to raise money to support this no-kill shelter, located right here in Amissville.
