Cloniger found guilty
in Culpeper
Ira Wayne Cloniger was found guilty of unlawful wounding, last Tuesday, in the Culpeper Circuit Court. Cloniger was charged with malicious wounding, however, a twelve person juiy found him guilty of unlawful wounding, a lesser offense. The juiy deliberated on the sentence overnight before recommending on Wednesday that Cloniger serve two years in prison for his offense. The sentencing hearing will be held December 29th.
Cloniger, 43, is currently charged with first-degree murder in Rappahannock County, for stabbing and killing Edward Fletcher Jr. Following the murder, Cloniger fled the scene and was the subject of a week-long manhunt in July. At the time, Cloniger was out on a $10,000 secured bond, for the incident that had occurred in Culpeper County, where he was indicted for stabbing and wounding Wally Clem, 60, during a household brawl oh April 20th.
