Nov. 5: Full Moon Hike
The Ragged Mountain Resource Center will be resuming a variety of hikes this fall and winter, starting with a Full Moon Hike of Old Rag Mountain on Sunday, the 5th of November. This is a strenuous yet beautiful hike, suitable for anyone who is in relatively decent shape. Students and children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants should meet at the small upper parking lot past the large lower lot near Nethers by 5 p. m.
Comfortable but supportive footwear, layered clothing, a small pack with water and a snack, and a back-up headlamp or flashlight are recommended. There is no charge for the hike, though donations are appreciated. Nov. 5: 4-H Chili Cook-Off
Bluegrass Festival
There will be a 4-H Chili Cook-Off & Bluegrass Festival at Rappahannock County High School on Sunday, November 5th from 2 p. m. to 6:30 p. m. Performing will be Cliff Waldron and the New Shades of Grass, Shenandoah Travelers, Debbie Zinn and Natural Grass. Dragonflies and Damselflies”
Lyt Wood, local arborist and educator, will share experiences and fascinating photos from his intensive study of this area’s dragonflies and damselflies over the past eight months. Though very large and conspicuous, as well as ecologically important, these colorful insects are generally overlooked. Come and explore the world of these ferocious predators of Rappahannock County’s rivers, ponds and streams on Wednesday, November 8, at 7 p. m., at the Rappahannock County Library. This presentation is free, suitable for all ages, and sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection’s Biodiversity Task Force. For information call 675-9989.
Nov. 8: Winter Luncheons
Rappahannock Nonprofit Center Hosts a Winter Luncheon series, starting Wednesday, November 8, from 12 to 1 p. m. and every second Wednesday through February. The luncheon series is an opportunity for the nonprofits in our community to meet, face to face, to network and share both concerns and resources with one another.
