The Schoolhouse included a pub and restaurant that served hamburgers made from organic beef raised at Sunnyside Farm.
After the Schoolhouse closed, DeBergh told the Rappahannock News that he wanted Sunnyside Market to remain open.
“What happens [in November] remains to be seen,” DeBergh said at the time. “I know that a lot of Washington residents, myself included, would like for it to stay open.”
DeBergh said Wednesday that he had no role in the decision to close the market.
Tamara Waldo, former chief operating officer for Sunnyside Farms, said the market’s scheduled closing will provide time to prepare the budding for sale this month.
Cole, who still owns several properties in Rappahannock County, left the county in 2003 to move to Hawaii, where he invested in and became chairman, president and CEO of the Maui Land and Pineapple Company Inc.
