Nov. 11: Holiday Bazaar
The Amissville United
Methodist Women will be holding their 26th annual bazaar on Saturday, November 11, from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. The bazaar features handcrafted Christmas ornaments and decorations, plus many other crafted items for children, babies and the ' home. There will be an extensive array of baked goods and homemade preserves, fresh Georgia pecans, flavorings, and the ever-popular white elephant tables. Lunch is also served featuring homemade soup, chili, sandwiches, hot dogs and desserts. We hope to see you there.
Nov. 12: Story of a Slave from
Rappahannock County
The Rappahannock Historical Society will feature Gettysburg historian, Deborah McCauslin, speaking on “Kitty Payne’s Pain”. Kitty Payne was a slave in Rappahannock County involved in an incredible human and legal story that flip-flops from bondage to freedom and back again. Hers is a very interesting story with wide appeal. Donations of $5 are suggested for the event. Refreshments served. Sunday, November 12 at 4 p. m. in the Town Hall, Washington.
Nov. 12: International
Music/Dance Festival
Community members of all ages will enjoy African Drumming, Turkish Music and Dancing, Scottish bagpipes, Celtic Dancers, Spanish song and displays of their home countries by visiting foreign exchange students. Presented by a committee made up of representatives from our three area high schools, Rappahannock High, Wakefield Country Day School and Hearthstone School, this event will kick off “International Education Week”, a national event at schools around the country.
Reception from 1:30 until 2 pm will be held in the commons area of RCHS, where community members of all ages can enjoy browsing through the foreign exchange student booths, at no cost.
Performance from 2-4 p.m: at the Rappahannock County High School auditorium. During intermission Apple Hill Bakery will sell Turkish treats.
Tickets for the 2 to 4 p.m. performance are $5 for adults and $1.00 for students. Come out to celebrate community and diversity! For reservations call (540) 987-7204, mail box 4. The event is sponsored by Headwaters Public Education Foundation.
Nov. 14,15,16: Basic Hunter
Safety Education Course
There will be a Basic Hunter Safety Education Course on November 14 -16 from 5-9 p. m., at the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department. To register or for more information contact: Emily Roop at (540) 987-8019 or email flying mammal@hotmail.com. This class is limited to 25 participants. You must be able to attend all three nights. This course is mandatory for individuals who are 16 years or older and have never held a hunting license. There is no charge for the course.
Nov.14: Birds in shade coffee
Birds seen in Rappahannock in the summer spend the winter in the tropics, where many live in shade-grown coffee plantations. Shenandoah National Park ecologist Alan Williams will explain the link between shade-grown coffee and these birds, and the role played by army ants. The presentation will be at 7 p. m. at the Rappahannock County Public Library and is suitable for all ages. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
