Vliv r* * VkJV y and it’s exciting for those who have worked to nurture and support Starfish to witness the impact it’s had on these young adults. Program Coordinator Carol Lucking, who has overseen the program for the past three years, said, “as we read monthly reports and meet for progress meetings, we realize how much positive change occurs in these young people over time, just by being in this kind of relationship. It is not parenting and it is not teaching or counseling. It is a real adult friendship that touches the hearts of both the young people and the mentors. Something happens that is magical when we give of ourselves to another person, genuinely caring with compassion, not because we have to but because we choose to. And it is clear that both cannot help but be changed forever.”
