A room by room inventory of your home, where you mentally view the use or function of the room, amount of time spent in each room, and the satisfaction you have with the look and feel of the room can be time well spent at the beginning of the year to plan what needs to be done.

Be bold with your dreams of what could evolve, and think of you personal needs for order, function, creativity and beauty.
Look at the color of the walls, the arrangement of the furniture, the condition of the furniture and flooring, the accessories and collections you display, the lighting, and the seasonal changes nature provides in the room.
Look at the scale of each item, how it relates to other items, and get an overall feel of how the room works to create a feeling. Is it what you want? Are there little changes you’d like to make? Have you outgrown your love for the colors in the room, or does it need refreshing?
There should be a focal point in the room, i.e. a main attraction that draws you in to the room.
This can be an interesting, large piece of furniture, a fireplace, a painting, a quilt or something else that interests you.
Look at how many things you have used to fill the room. Is there enough negative space included in your room or in your display of accessories to make the most special items stand out? Is the “stuff you need” convenient, yet not cluttered?
Do you need to evaluate your storage spaces to creatively hide those necessities of life? Do your things need editing? Look at the light in the rooms at different times of the day and night.
Is the lighting where you need it, and can you still enjoy the room during an especially sunny day? Are your treasures highlighted by light, so they can be viewed by you and others?
