annual “Challenge Index” of 184 D.C. area high schools in early December. According to Mathews, the formula is simple: “Divide the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college level tests a school gave in one year by the number of seniors who graduated. Tests taken by all students, not just seniors, arecounted.” Rappahannock dropped a couple places in the comparison of area schools.

Reason for the drop: the 2006 RCHS graduating class was 15 students larger than the previous year’s class and the number of AP tests taken remained constant.
