Police Briefs

Ira Waffie Cloniger, 43, was sentenced to two years in prison on Dec. 29th, for the stabbing of Wally Clem, 60, in Culpeper. Cloniger was found guilty of unlawful wounding by a Culpeper Jury in November for the offense. The incident occurred in Culpeper on April 20 as Cloniger stabbed Clem during a household brawl. Cloniger was the subject of a week long manhunt in Rappahannock County last July after allegedly stabbing and killing Edward Carlton Fletcher Jr., 29. Cloniger was out on a $10,000 secured bond, at the time, for the stabbing incident in Culpeper. Cloniger’s murder trial is scheduled to begin on January 22 in Rappahannock County.

Fender benders

Charles Edward Corder Jr., 56, of Washington, Va. collided with Megan Marie Herrell, 21, also from Washington, while making a left hand turn near Sperryville. The accident occurred on January 2 at about 10:45 a.m. Corder was turning his 2002 Ford Explorer to go south on Highway 522, when he hit Herrell’s 1983 Ford LTD traveling North on highway 522. The accident was handled by State Trooper Donald Corbin. There were no injuries reported and no charges were made in the accident.

Earl Franklin Clannigan, 66, of Washington, Va. was rear-ended on Gid Brown Hollow Road after stopping to talk to a student. Clannigan stopped in the road on the morning of January 2, to notify a student waiting for the bus that there was no school that day. Leslie Michelle Baker, 24, also from Washington, collided with Clannigan’s 1994 Ford Explorer while driving her 2002 Ford Explorer. State Trooper Donald Corbin responded to the scene. The accident is still under investigation as to whether charges will be filed.
