As the staff, board, and volunteers of Headwaters look forward to a new year, we have much to be excited about and much to be grateful for. Rappahannock News Editor Anita Sherman has graciously invited us to contribute a monthly column, a wonderful opportunity for us to share news about our programs with the community in an organized, predictable format. The column will appear in the first week each month. Perhaps for some the schedule will evoke memories of the original “First Thursday” group—a group of public school parents who held monthly meetings to discuss ways to support and improve the Rappahannock County Public Schools. The group was a precursor to Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit with its own professional staff and major programs, now in existence for over ten years.
