Dozens of federal, state and local] law enforcement officers - including two /gang task forces and a narcotics task force - descended on a small settlement along the back roads of Culpeper County oh Friday afternoon and arrested three suspects on charges of conspiring to commit a robbery in a gang related initiation. Possession of marijuana and weapons charges were also placed on some of the suspects.
The operation involved the Blue Ridge Narcotics Task Force, NOVA Gang Task Force, Rappahannock Regional Gang Task Force, units from Rappahannock, Fauquier and Culpeper sheriffs' and police departments, the Virginia State Police, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and FBI. A witness reported seeing a SWAT team at the house with the suspects in handcuffs.
The county of Culpeper executed a search warrant at 15105 Shanktown Road in Reva acting on information from several law' enforcement agencies that a robbery mvolvirig a business in Rappahannock County was about to be carried out, according to law enforcement sources.
The suspects are “ wanna-be gang members,” said one law enforcement official, who were planning to rob a Rappahannock business to demonstrate their street “cred” (credibility).
When asked if the business was the Trading Post gun store outside Little Washington, Lt. Todd Taylor of the Virginia State Police, said “no comment.” He stressed the investigation is ongoing and more charges and arrests are pending. Owner Ken Carter also declined to comment.
