Arthur W. Arundel of The Plains has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Democratic Party’s nomination in the 7th Congressional District. Arundel, publisher of The Rappahannock News and four other newspapers in the Piedmont region, cited his “overriding public commitment to Great Meadow,” a new 500-acre non-profit turf and field events center under construction in Fauquier County, as the reason for his decision. Arundel has been active in Virginia politics since heading the Virginia campaign of assassinated presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. Runners have stepped up their training and organizers their preparations as everyone gets ready for the annual 10 Kilometer Fodderstack Classic set for April 12. Diane Bruce reports that as of last weekend, over 100 hopefuls had pre-registered for the road race, promising a full field for the starter to send off from Flint Hill. At a work session in the high school library Tuesday, the Rappahannock supervisors gave their blessings to a $3,000 addition to their emergency repair
