Schwartz was nominated to replace the late Claudia Mitchell on the town council.
Saying “everybody knows Gary, he’s extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, hardworking and understands the sewer project extraordinarily well," council member John Sullivan made the nomination.
Bennett - before his temporary resignation - stated that there was no conflict of interest as the “town council has already acted on awarding the services contract” to WW Associates.
“It is possible for amendments to come up,” he said - one was actually on the agenda that night - but that this would be the exception and not the rule.”
If major issues with WW Associates arose, Schwartz would have to recuse himself, said Bennett.
