made its first bridge move when a contract was signed on April 21, 1909, between the county’s Road Board and the York Bridge Company of York, Pa. It was for a one-lane steel bridge, 81 V2 feet long and 12 feet wide with concrete masonry for the abutments. The cost was $1,575 for the bridge and fill. With the approaches, the total came to $1,800. The bridge was over the North Fork of the Thornton River on the Little Washington to Sperryville turnpike.
