Emporium was a business success for years, a fact apparently not known to the current generation of newcomers who have jumped on the tourism bandwagon. Why was it a success? Because it had an excellent location on 211 in the Sperryville School House and it sold the right kind of stuff at a good price. No shortage of tourists. Sunnyside failed because they didn’t know its market. Brought in brilliant consultants from New York. Guess what? Prices w-ere too high and products too upscale.
