If you replace your old system you might be eligible for up to $1,500 in tax benefits. And, if you wait too long, you may lose the tax credit, and pay a much higher utility bill. One more thing. Next year (2010) a new law will make most existing air conditioners effectively obsolete! This is a law banning the manufacturing of air conditioners using the refrigerant R-22. When that happens, I predict that the cost of this refrigerant will also skyrocket, which means your old air conditioner could become very expensive to repair.
