Canvassing residents and campaigning on issues of cleaning up weeds and trash in town, promptly replacing burned out bulbs in the streetlights and controlling stray dogs on the street, most of the town residents were sold on the idea and trooped to the polls on June 13, 1950. After all the votes were counted, the women had won and the revolution began.
National and international publicity followed. And despite the naysayers the all-woman council tackled the issues and was judged a success, so much so that females dominated the town government for the next quarter century.
