There was also another steel bridge ordered a few months later. The Road Board on July 20,1909, signed a contract for $3,000 with the York Bridge Company for a 140-foot bridge across the Thornton River at JollifTs Ford, along the Old Richmond Road, today’s Route 729. This contract is of interest because a copy is still retained,in the Rappahannock County Clerk’s Office. It is likely the Sperryville bridge contract looked the same.
