Quality Road is inbred to the two most influential strains in American racing, 4x4 to Raise a Native and 4x5 to Northern Dancer.
Owner-breeder Longtime Casanova resident Edward P. “Ned” Evans graduated from Yale University with a degree in economics and earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Evans’ 3,000-acre Spring Hill Farm in Casanova, where Quality Road was foaled, has made its mark in the Thoroughbred breeding industry, earning Virginia’s Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders award in 2004.
Evans is a son of the late Thomas Mellon Evans, who bred champion and 1981 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Pleasant Colony. Also a Virginia-bred, at the elder Evans’ Buckland Farm in Gainesville, Pleasant Colony missed winning the Triple Crown when he finished third in the Belmont.
Ned Evans was honored with the Ogden Phipps Award as top breeder by the New York Turf Writers Association in 2002.
Evans also bred 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam as well as Irish champion Minstrella.
As an owner, Evans campaigned standouts Summer Colony, Gold Mover, Gygistar and Prenup. He captured the leading owner title at Aqueduct in 2001, 2002 and
