• Wildflower walks, join avid nature conservationist and native-plant enthusiast Bruce Jones to walk nature trails and see Wild Ginger, Hepatica, Trilliums, Lady Slipper Orchids, Crossvine, and other flowering native plants as well as native wildlife. Walks to be held also on May 3 and May 5. Learn about the challenges and rewards Of restoring native habitat. The walks start at 2 p.m., and lasts 1 to 1-1/2 hours. • Virginia Gold Cup, one of the nation’s largest steeplechase races, celebrates 84 years at Great Meadow, The Plains, Va. Seven hurdle and timber horse races, Jack Russell Terrier races, tent, tailgate and hat contests, and over 30 vendor booths. • Rededication of historic Scrabble School - The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County and the Scrabble School Preservation Foundation invite the public to attend the rededication as the Scrabble School Senior Center on Saturday, 1 p.m. A program, self tour of the facility, casual conversations with Scrabble School Alumni, and refreshments will be offered.
• Bird walk with Shenandoah National Park ecologist Alan Williams along the Rappahannock River near Flint Hill to see and hear migrating songbirds at 8:30 a.m. Walk will take about two hours.
