A: Regarding Quality Road as a stallion, he has probably a better pedigree [more distinguished] than Pleasant Colony, and I would think has every chance to be a first-rate stallion.
Q: Quality Road has shown great promise since his first start. When did you first see that athleticism? When did your trainer tell you he might be a Derby horse?
A: Quality Road showed great promise in his first start running an astounding 101 Beyer [a numerical rating]. If you would like the first evidence of his athletic ability, [we have] a picture of him in flight at two days old.
Q: What is the best part about the Derby trail so far? Is it fun to be part of the media circus, or is it more of a pressure-cooker?
A: The best part of the Derby trail so far is staying on it. We now think Quality Road’s foot [quarter crack] will not be a problem.
I can say that there is a quite a bit of pressure and worry about a pre-Derby favorite, but after all, in my generation, pressure was considered a plus.
