Other purchased services have their local funding share covered by donated money through the Chapter 10 Community Services Board with whom the county has contracted to supply the purchased services, she added.
Optional Program
In addition, the Welfare Board had included optional companion services in it's Title 20 plan and that service required $1,600 in local funds for the five participants, according to Mrs. Buntin.
She added that the Title 20 Plan included provisions to serve only five clients with companion services during the current year.
The need for companion services is greater than anticipated, according to the Social Services Director.
She said she’d received additional applicants for the program that had to be turned down despite meeting eligibility requirements because there weren’t sufficient funds available.
To qualify for companion services, an applicant must be a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient with a total income of $199.70 or less per month.
The applicant may own a house and lot that is exempted from eligibility considerations if the applicant resides there. All other property is counted as a resource.
These people served by the county’s only optional Welfare Program are the “poorest of the poor,” Mrs. Buntin concluded.
