I often wonder why I’m still living at this age,” Nora ^ Kendall mused. “There must be some good reason. I’ve been here for about five generations.”
Nora Kendal will be 91 in October and most of her life has been spent in Washington, Virginia. She has listened to, loved and comforted several generations of children in the little town. The same lap that held mothers and fathers, and later rocked sons nnH daughters, now bounces grandchildren.
She doesn’t get out much anymore. Her sight is failing and she’s bothered by arthritis, but Nora Kendall’s inquiring mind and gentle wit haven’t been affected by the years. Her voice is steady. It doesn’t crack with age and she can recall events of 50 years ago as clearly as she remember’s yesterday’s visitors.
Ma Kendall is proof that the advice “give and you will receive” still applies. Over the years, she’s given of herself with time, love and material assistance.
Since her eyesight has deteriorated, friends come in to visit and help with laundry, cooking, transportation and other needs.
