The lady customer in the store when the two Negro males entered was unidentified and police are seeking to find her, in the event she may be able to identify or give any information about the robbers. According to Reynolds, she was wearing a red coat and driving a dark green car. She had been to the store on previous occassions, but Reynolds did not know her name. Trooper Baines requests that this woman get in touch with him, Sheriff Buntin or Deputy Hawkins. The men apparently had their vehicle parked at the old Sperryville fire hall nearby and walked to it and fled. If anyone saw the vehicle parked at the old fire house about 9 p.m. Tuesday, please contact the police or sheriff.
An armed robbery occurred Tuesday night at Mr. Jefferson’s Store in Sperryville and $250 in cash was taken. Two Negro males entered the store about 9 p.m. where the proprietor, Ronald Reynolds, was waiting on a customer. As she left, the two men, one armed with a sawed off shotgun and the other with a pistol, demanded the money from the cash register, according to Trooper R. A. Baines who responded in a matter of minutes after being dispatched.
Reynolds put the cash in a paper bag and gave ft to them. They ordered him to lie on the floor and stay there for twenty minutes, then cut the phone line and fled on foot, apparently to a vehicle parked nearby, said Baines.
