The Vanity Panthers baseball team travelled to Madison County on Thursday, April 20, where they dropped a close game to the home team, 5 to 4.
The Panthers rallied in the sixth when Brooke Miller took first through an error by Madison baseman Davis, and then stole second, beginning the Rappahannock scoring drive. Nils Aylor followed with a hit to Madisbn shortstop Salmon, who erred, putting Aylor on first. Rick Johnson singled and Miller came in on Johnson’s right fielder. Gary Settle sacrificed and through an error by Madison first baseman Harris, took first as Aylor came home. Roger Jenkins fanned a single advancing Settle and allowing Johnson to score. Then Weasel Carter singled, advancing pinch runner James Hackley (for pitcher Jenkins) to second.
Madison Pitcher Cave effectively stomped further Panther scoring attempts when he struck out Lairry Settle and Jeff Jenkins. Catcher Stanley threw the ball to third baseman Jenkins of Madison to get Hackley out as he attempted to steal third, ending the inning and the scoring drive.
