Forty years of music, song and dance—that’s how long the Tamburtizans of Duquesne University have been around! When Dr. A. Lester Pierce first brought the musical groups to Duquesne in 1937, there were only fourteen men who formed the “Slovonic Tamburitza Orchestra.” Females and dancers came later. This is the group that will appear at the Culpeper County High School at 8 p.m. on May 3 as the final offering of the Culpeper Community Concert Association for this season.
The group takes its name from the tamburitza family of stringed instruments indigenous to the folk cultures of Southeastern
