Elizabeth also emphasized that a speech difficulty is not necessarily an indication of a learning disability or other handicap. “What parents have to realize is that just because a child has a speech problem doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with the child. It doesn’t mean his intelligence is lower.”
“Parents shouldn’t worry that their child may be embarrassed about getting speech therapy,” she continued. Most children appreciate the extra attention and don’t feel singled out by attending a special class. “Parents should come in and visit to see how happy the kids are,” Elizabeth concluded.
