At a special meeting held Monday, May 21, the Rappahannock School Board unanimously approved aTitle 1 budget of $130,372 for the coming year. According to Superintendent William Bloomer, the federal funds will be used to finance a continuation of this year’s programs which include primary classes and reading and math labs for upper elementary and high school students.
The approved budget shows an increase of $12,247 over the 1978-79 Title I budget. Dr. Bloomer noted that the Title 1 allocation for Rappahannock schools for the 1979-80 school year is $145,517. “We can spend the additional $15,000 if we can come up with a justifiable program and services," he said. Bloomer explained that the program for the coming year may be amended to include the total available funding after the Title I Advisory Committee meets with assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel.
In addition, the School Board unanimously approved contracts for five new teachers. Three first year teachers were hired for primary grades kindergarten through third: University of Virginia graduate Kathryn Chambers, Longwood graduate Raye Rector and William and Mary graduate Diane Tuthill.
