Delegates to the state convention also voted to set up a Temporal Bone Bank, to do research and to transplant bone tissue for those suffering hearing loss. The new facility, to be located at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, would complement the two Eye Banks currently operated by the Lions of Virginia. Over $400,000 was donated this past year by state Lions Clubs to various programs for the visually handicapped. The Rappahannock Lions Club actively supports this program and the majority of its members have pledged their eyes to provide the wonderful gift of sight to a visually handicapped person.
A total of over 1,200 Lions, ladies and guests attended the three day state convention in Richmond. The local delegation comprised President Holschuh, President-elect John Schultz, Secretary Bob Ingle, and Philip Butten, chairman of Zone 2, District IV.
