The Rappahannock Chapter of the Izaak Walton League held its first annual meeting and Charter night dinner at the home of Judge and Mrs. Lee Bird at Washington Monday night, May 21. Organized as a nonpartisan, issue-oriented organization, the League has accepted an activist role in defending the county’s soil, forests, waters and wildlife.
The members signed the Chapter’s Charter, elected a board of directors for the 1979-80 action year and adopted a program of action.
The Chapter plans to:
—Monitor the proposed Alpine Slide and Goode subdivision to assure that all county and state development and environmental policies are properly implemented and enforced;
—Adopt, under the nationwide Save Our Streams program, outstanding county streams, to include the Rush and Jordan Rivers and monitor them for water quality changes;
—Seek improved methods of disposing of the county's trash and to improve the appearance of dumpster sites;
—Encourage 1980 high school graduates to participate in the Izaak Walton
