At the state meet, Rappahannock athletes vied with 552 students representing 118 teams.
RCHS qualified nine individual competitors and an 880 relay team for the state meet following regional trials held at James Madison University on Saturday. May 12. At the regional meet, Rappahannock girls placed fourth with 52 points. Stonewall Jackson was first with 102, Central-Woodstock second with 69 and Luray third with 64.
The boys track team had only Rodney Cook and Carl Jordan competing in the regionals. Both qualified for the state finals with fifth and sixth place finishes in the long jump.
At the regional meet. Lady Panther Liz Freeman was first in the 880 (2:30.1), winning a birth in state competition. Ann Thomas placed first in the two-mile (12:05.9) and second in the mile. Jennette Beebe was third and Tammy Atkins fifth in the discuss. Johanna Day third in the high jump. Ronda Wiley third and Natalie Swindler sixth in the hurdles and Rappahannock's team of Swindler.
