Citizens Band radios are now part of the standard equipment in use by the warden force of the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries. Major Gerald Simmons, Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement for the Commission, announced that ‘‘the wardens are now monitoring CB Channel No. 9 routinely at all times when on patrol.”
The radio equipment being used is wired with a “Channel 9 Priority” which enables the officer to receive calls on Channel 9 regardless of the channel that the unit is tuned to. Simmons said, “this project is part of the Enforcement Division’s continuing program of making game wardens more accessible to the public in emergencies. It will also enable the officer to receive reports of violations which are in progress. An example of how such a report could be utilized by a warden would be for a concerned sportsman to alert the officer (on Channel 9) about a violation in progress and actually remain unidentified if desired.”
