“I don’t have any pain (from the injuries) any more, but my right side still is weak. It feels like it doesn’t belong to me," King says. ‘‘My strength is coming back slowly, but it is coming back."
Wyndham, who lauds King as his “main motor overhaul man,” says, “A few times he (King) would throw up his hands and say ’I give up’, but we’d talk things over and he always came back to try again. I’d say he's back to about 80 per cent (of his former) capacity."
Now King, who is in his ninth year with Country Chevrolet, leaves his wife Lillian (who he calls Peaches) each weekday morning to report to work—as a mechanic, not a janitor.
“I'll just keep pushing myself," King says modestly. "I want to be a mechanic and that’s what I'm going to be.”
